Software Management Manual

The Business Software Alliance (BSA) is the foremost organization dedicated to promoting a safe and legal digital world. BSA is the voice of the world's commercial software industry before governments and in the international marketplace. Its members represent the fastest growing industry in the world. BSA educates consumers on software management and copyright protection, cyber security, trade, e-commerce and other Internet-related issues. BSA members include among others Adobe, Apple, Autodesk, Avid, Bentley Systems, CA, IBM, Microsoft and Symantec.

Unfortunately - to the best of our knowledge - at that time BSA had no white paper, no directives, no guidelines on how to achieve software legality and how to implement working software management procedures into organizations. Today it has a so called Software Management Guide, but it is only a very well designed marketing material, with no real-world techniques described.

For that reason our company - having the largest active experience in that field and having the only one Certified Software Managers on board in Eastern Europe - was appointed by BSA Hungary in 2003 to develop the majority of a red book called the Software Management Guide. This was a pioneering attempt to assemble software inventory techniques, legal and financial topics into one document.

This is a very good commencement for small corporations and for newcomers into the World of software legality. Companies can not bypass developing software management policies and introducing IT asset inventory tools.
